Wynfield Waves CHAMPS INFO--PLEASE READ

Good afternoon,

If you are a regular meet family, please read!!! If your swimmer has exclusively participated in Speedy meets, feel free to ignore.

With the end of the season approaching, I’ve had a number of families reach out with questions about Champs. There are also a number of families who have not yet declared their swimmers for champs. PLEASE DECLARE YOUR SWIMMER’S AVAILABILITY FOR CHAMPS BY THE END OF TODAY. It is impossible for us as coaches to do entries and know who we are able to enter into the meet if we don’t have all athletes declared. Remember–you are declaring whether or not your swimmer is AVAILABLE to swim. Once we have that info we can complete entries and then we will communicate with you whether or not we are able to get your swimmer(s) into the meet.

Here’s everything you need to know about Champ (I HOPE!):

  • Date/Time: July 11th, 2026 @ Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics (11725 Verhoeff Drive, Huntersville) Directions
    • AM SESSION: 8am-12pm (Age Groups: 8 under, 9-10)
    • PM SESSION: 12pm-4pm (Age Groups: 11-12, 13-14, 15-18)
  • Entry limitations: The same entry rules as used in regular meets apply to the championship meet. Swimmers may swim a maximum of 5 events, of which 3 can be individual events and 2 can be relay events.
  • Qualifying for Champs:There are qualifying standards for this swim meet. Times are posted on our team website (Meets-Champs), and I’ll also post them below at the end of this email. Swimmers achieving a qualifying time are guaranteed a spot swimming an individual event at Champs. *When looking at qualifying times below, please note that each event has 2 times: yards and meters. Meets at Wynfield, Northstone, River Run, Highland Creek, and the Hamptons are meters. Meets at Peninsula and HFFA are yards. Also, the IM (individual medley) does not have a separate qualifying time for 8 & under: it is a 10 & under event. Therefore, all swimmers ages 10 or younger must meet the qualifying standard listed for the 9/10 age group.
  • Individual entries for swimmers who have not achieved a qualifying time: As a team, we are guaranteed a minimum of 4 entries in each event. So, there are situations when we might invite a swimmer to swim an individual event even if they didn’t make the qualifying time. For example, if an event only has 2 qualified swimmers entered, we have space for 2 additional swimmers. We will then look at the next fastest times in the event and invite those swimmers to participate.
  • Relays at Champs: Each team is able to enter up to 3 relays per relay event (Relay A, B, and C). There are a number of swimmers who will be able to participate in Champs in relays even if they don’t have an individual event. (Again–we cannot complete this process until we have all swimmers declared.)
  • Notification of participation in Champs: We plan to send out a preliminary entry list to families by Tuesday evening (July 7).
  • Points/Placing: Top 8 swimmers will score points. Top 3 will be awarded medals. Places 4-8 will receive ribbons. All medals/ribbons will be handed out at our end of season banquet on Sunday, 7/12.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Coach Tiffany or Coach Wilson at [email protected].
