Wynfield Waves: Week of 6/1/26
Good Evening,
What an amazing start to the season! A huge thank you to all of you for making our first meet run so smoothly. Despite the late start to the practice season, our swimmers performed incredibly well. We had some parents and swimmers experience their very first swim meet, swimmers jump in and compete even though they haven't been able to make a single practice yet this season, and even had some of our younger swimmers helping out our meet official with order of finish! There were numerous best times achieved, and more smiles on deck than I could count! Thank you to everyone who volunteered, pitched in, and made our first meet a success!
I am attaching results to this email, and results are already posted to the team website. Results are also available during the meet on the SwimTopia App.
A quick and important request:
If you have not already done so, please declare your swimmers (attending/not attending) for next week's Thursday meet (6/11) ASAP. We would love to have all swimmers declared by this Friday so that we can work on getting entries done early. This helps us make sure swimmers know what they are swimming and are able to focus on the strokes/starts/turns that they will be swimming. Any swimmer NOT declared will NOT be entered in the meet.
This week's focus in the pool:
- Speedy Meet Swimmers: This week coaches will continue to introduce and reinforce skills for freestyle and backstroke. For swimmers who show a good working understanding of both free and back, we will begin introducing breaststroke.
- 10 & Under: We will continue to reinforce freestyle and shift our focus back to backstroke skills. We will be working on stroke form, finishes, and finally take a look at backstroke starts! Towards the end of the week we will shift our focus more on breaststroke, including work on pullouts for swimmers who have mastered a legal breaststroke.
- 11 & Up: We will work all 4 strokes this week while we build up some endurance. We will also be focusing on turns, especially for those swimmers new to swimming 50’s. Swimmers should expect to get plenty of opportunities to practice turns while swimming sets designed to get them more comfortable swimming 50 meters!
This week’s schedule:
- Monday, 6/1: Practice 6:00-8:00
- Tuesday, 6/2: Practice 6:00-8:00
- Speedy meet assessments will take place during practice from 6:00-6:30. We will do this informally. The expectation is that all swimmers be able to swim 1 length of the pool independently. Coaches will be assessing this skill throughout practice both Monday and Tuesday to make it feel like a natural part of practice and limit any extra stress on the swimmers. If we have any concerns about specific swimmers, we will reach out directly to those families by Wednesday afternoon.
- Wednesday, 6/3: Practice 6:00-8:00
- Thursday, 6/4: Practice 6:00-8:00
- FRIDAY, 6/5: NO PRACTICE
- SATURDAY, 6/6: FIRST SPEEDY MEET @ Highland Creek (9am-10:30am)
- We will send more info later this week
- Please note--parents do NOT need to sign their swimmers in/out of speedy meets. We hope you are all able to make it, but understand if you can't!
