Speedy Meet Info 6/14

(This information is for Speedy Meet families only)

Hi Wynfield Families!

Tomorrow morning (Saturday) is our 2nd speedy meet! In order for it to run smoothly and on time, please plan to arrive between 8:15-8:20. Warmups will be from 8:30 and 8:45.  The meet will begin at 9:00.

Before arriving:

Please write the following information on the back of your child's right shoulder with a sharpie:

  • First and Last name
  • Age

This allows coaches to not only spot your swimmer, but also helps volunteers with helping to line up swimmers.

Location:

Hamptons Pool

10340 Vixen Lane, Huntersville

Volunteers

Please plan to arrive by 8:15. All volunteers should sign in with Coach Kristina to receive a name tag and job assignment. WE STILL NEED ONE MORE VOLUNTEER!  If you would like to volunteer for the position of meet coordinator, please sign up TONIGHT.  (This is truly a simple job, and an easy way to mark of one of the required volunteer slots!)

What to bring:

Swimmers should wear their team suit and bring the following:

  • swim cap
  • Goggles
  • towels (bring several--our younger swimmers seem to do better when they can get warm between events)
  • water
  • snacks
  • Parents and other visitors may also want to bring extra chairs in case of limited seating.

We're so excited to see you all there! Go Waves!!

- Coach Kristina

A quick note about speedy meet events:

We have had several parents ask what they should do if their swimmer doesn't know all 4 strokes.  The easy answer is to just give us (the coaches and the swimmers) time!  All speedy meet swimmers get the chance to try all 4 strokes at each speedy meet. Learning all 4 strokes in the first few weeks of the season is not realistic, so we are aware that not all swimmers know how to swim all 4 strokes by the first meet. Prior to the first meet we worked on freestyle and backstroke. This week we have reinforced free and back, but have shifted our teaching focus to breaststroke, so we are looking forward to see more swimmers attempting this event. All swimmers are absolutely encouraged to give butterfly a try (the coaches will give them a crash course on deck), but we know that most of our speedy meet swimmers are not yet familiar with butterfly. Next week we will be working on butterfly, so by our home speedy meet (next weekend) swimmers will have been exposed to all 4 strokes!
