INFO FOR SWIMMERS:
- What to bring:
- Suit (girls—tie back suits are NOT legal competition suits and are not allowed. Tech suits are NOT allowed for swimmers 12 & under. Furthermore, we do not encourage tech suits for this meet.
- Caps and goggles
- extra towels! While it is hot out, HFFA tends to have cold water. Swimmers will want warm, dry towels after warm-ups and between events.
- water, drinks with electrolytes
- snacks
- Sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship is expected from meet officials and from the Wynfield coaches. Keep comments positive and congratulate your fellow swimmers. We are hoping for some great swims. However, no one should be slapping the water, throwing caps/goggles, or sitting on the ropes in celebration. DOING SO COULD BE CAUSE FOR DISQUALIFICATION. When you finish your race, you should wait respectfully for the rest of your heat to finish before exiting the pool.
- Whistle starts: We will use whistle starts tomorrow. Here's what swimmers will hear:
- 1. The Deck Referee will blow a series of short whistles. This communicates to the swimmers that they should be ready for their swim – cap and goggles on…ready to swim.
-
2. Then, there will be a long whistle. This tells the swimmer to step up on the block…or in backstroke to step in the water. The starter will NOT say "Swimmers, step up." Instead, the long whistle is the cue to step up onto the block or step into the pool for backstroke.
- ***For swimmers ages 11 & up only: On backstroke, after you step into the water, there will be a 2nd long whistle that is your cue to set your feet.
- 3. Once swimmers are on the block or in the water, the starter fill say "Take your marks..." followed by the starter beep.
- Dive overs (11&up): As we have been doing all season long, we will do dive-overs tomorrow. When you finish, stay in the pool as close to the wall as possible. There should not be movement (splashing, swimming around, climbing out, etc.) until the next heat has started. This does NOT apply to backstroke. Backstrokers will EXIT the water when their heat finishes.
- Relays: PLEASE remind your swimmer that when swimming on a relay, they must IMMEDIATELY exit the pool as soon as they finish their leg of the race. Staying in the water can be cause for disqualification.
- Stay with the team: Tomorrow's meet will move FAST. It is important that swimmers stay with the team so they don't miss their events. Remember--we swim all relays FIRST. It is stressful for all involved (coaches, volunteers, swimmers, etc.) when we are missing swimmers. PLEASE encourage your kids to stay with the team so we can have a fun, stress-free day tomorrow!
GENERAL INFO:
- Swimmer Mark-up: Please mark-up your swimmer with event, heat, lane info before coming to the pool. If you need help with this, coaches are glad to help on deck. Remember the event order WILL BE DIFFERENT since we are swimming all relays first (see event order above).
- Seating: HFFA follows local access and fire codes and will be enforcing these guidelines during the meet. There will be volunteers as well as league reps instructing families on where they can sit. Please respect these guidelines as well as the volunteers tasked with enforcing them. If you are asked to move, please do so without question.
- Swimmers will be seated on the east side of the pool deck (the area closer to the offices)
- Wynfield swimmers will sit together as a team close to the diving well on the RIGHT HAND SIDE of the pool
- Spectators will be seated on the west side (left hand side) of the pool deck (this is the area next to the side entrance/splash pad area).
- There are no spectator chairs allowed on the pool deck.
- Swimmers will be seated on the east side of the pool deck (the area closer to the offices)
- Parking: The West lot is for HFFA Members only (this lot will be managed by an attendant). Parking is available in the East lot or across the street at the Huntersville Recreation Center. Valet parking will also be available.
- Food: Food trucks will be onsite, and feel free to bring your own food/beverages, as well. Food can be in the stands just NOT on the pool deck.
- OUTSIDE/SPLASH PAD AREA: Swimmers MUST refrain from using the splash pad during the meet (this includes those who are members).
We are beyond proud of the progress that our swimmers have made throughout the season and we cannot wait to see them swim tomorrow!
GO WAVES!!!!
