Welcome to the 2019 Season (and notes for this week)
Good afternoon Waves families,
We are excited that you have decided to join us this summer at the pool! All of us coaches are looking forward to a fun and successful summer of swimming. For returning families, we cannot wait to see you!!! For new members, welcome to the Wynfield Waves! Below you find important information about practices this week, along with important information for this season. We look forward to seeing you all soon!
Week 1 Practice Information:
1) Monday and Tuesday we will have dryland practice on the basketball courts at the Wynfield Pool (down the hill from the club house).
2) Swimmers need the following for practice this week:
-athletic clothing (shorts and a t-shirt)
- tennis shoes (NO sandals)
-water bottle
-sunscreen
3) Starting Wednesday, we will be in the pool. Swimmers should have a cap and goggles, towels, and sunscreen.
4) Practice times are as follows until June 10th:
5:30pm- 6:00pm | Speedy Meet Swimmers Only
6:00- 6:45 pm | 10 and Under Regular Meet Swimmers
6:30- 7:30 pm | 11 and Up
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
1) Practice attendance: We do expect swimmers to come to practices. However, we also understand that many times busy schedules, illness, school commitments, etc. might require a swimmer to miss practice. We understand this, and it is not necessary to contact the coaches in these situations.
2) Meet attendance: This is IMPORTANT. Please look ahead at your summer calendars. If your swimmer(s) will not be able to attend a meet, please sign them out now. It is very important for us to know which swimmers will be out from certain meets so that we can line up relays accordingly. The sign out link is the 4th tab on the swim team website. I'm also providing a link: https://wynfieldwaves.swimtopia.com/swimmer-sign-out. In the event of a last minute meet absence, please email Coach Tiffany at [email protected].
3) We have new suits this year. If you haven't ordered yours yet, please make sure you do so. Suits can be ordered at the store at HFFA.
4) Other swimming gear considerations:
Some swimmers choose to wear their team suits to practice, but keep in mind that repeated use and sun exposure does cause wear on the suit. An alternative to consider is to purchase a suit just for practice. Practice suits can be purchased at HFFA, most sporting goods stores, and online. One option is to google "grab bag swim suits," which can often lead to finding great deals on last season's prints! Also, for our boys, keep in mind that wearing swim trunks (instead of a tighter fitting suit) add drag, and can make it hard for a young swimmer to find their balance in the water.
-Caps: Although caps are optional, it is preferred that swimmers wear a cap. For anyone with long hair, wearing a cap at practice can make it much easier to see and breath with proper technique. Wearing caps also greatly helps goggles stay in place. We will provide team caps, but they won't be distributed until right before our first meet. I will bring samples of both latex and silicone caps for those interested in purchasing a cap for practices.
5) Please take some time this week to explore our team website. Many stressful last minute questions and doubts can be solved now by being familiar with the format and knowing where to find the information.
Thanks for taking the time for reading this message in its entirety! I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
