Welcome to the 2018 Wynfield Waves Swim Team

Good morning families,

We are excited that you have decided to join us this summer at the pool! We will begin practice this week with 2 dryland practices. These practices are important even though we won't be in the pool. They allow the coaches to get to know the swimmers, allow the swimmers to meet the coaches and fellow swimmers, and give us (the coaches) a chance to work on basic skills that will later be implemented in the pool. As you plan for this week, here are a few important reminders:

1) Practice this week is on Wednesday and Thursday on the basketball courts at the Wynfield Pool (down the hill from the club house).
-Ages 10 & under will practice from 5:30-6:30.
-Ages 11 & up practice from 6:30-7:30.

2) Swimmers need the following for practice this week:
-athletic clothing (shorts and a t-shirt)
- tennis shoes (NO sandals)
-water bottle
-sunscreen

3) The weather forecast this week looks a bit tricky for us. Please pay close attention to your emails on the day of practice for any updates or changes due to weather.

4) This year's team suits are the same as last year's suits. If you are new to the team or your child needs a different size, please make sure you order your team suit asap if you haven't already done so. Suits can be ordered at the store at HFFA.

5) Please look ahead at your summer calendars. If your swimmer(s) will not be able to attend a meet, please sign them out now.  It is very important for us to know which swimmers will be out from certain meets so that we can line up relays accordingly.

6) Looking ahead to next week (and the rest of the summer), swimmers will need the following for our regular practices starting on Monday, 5/21:

-swim suit (Some swimmers choose to wear their team suits to practice, but keep in mind that repeated use and sun exposure does cause wear on the suit.  An alternative to consider is to purchase a suit just for practice.  By googling "grab bag swim suits" you can often find great deals on last season's prints! Also, for our boys, keep in mind that wearing swim trunks (instead of a tighter fitting suit) add drag, and can make it hard for a young swimmer to find their balance in the water.

-goggles

-cap (optional)  For anyone with long hair, wearing a cap at practice can make it much easier to see and breath.  We will provide team caps, but they won't be distributed until right before our first meet.  I will bring samples of both latex and silicone caps for those interested in purchasing a cap for practices.

-water bottle

-towel

Thanks for taking the time for reading this message in its entirety!  I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!
